Debug it yourself first
Check says down, job ran fine.
- Did the ping actually go out? Run the curl line by hand on the server and look at the response.
- Is the ping behind
&&after a command that returns non-zero even on success? - Does the server allow outbound HTTPS?
- Is the check's time zone the same as the server's crontab?
Check never goes down even though the job is broken.
- Something else is pinging the same URL. Each job needs its own check.
- The ping runs regardless of the job's result (
;instead of&&).
Too many alerts around a deploy.
- Increase the grace time while the work is going on, then set it back.
Email-in pings not registering.
- Send from the tool, then look at the check's event log. Some tools wrap messages in ways that need a plain-text option.
